Registering your instance helps us build a better product. We take care to only retrieve information that is relevant and non-identifyable.
If you are planning on attaching a subscription to the instance, it would greatly help to register your instance, and attach it to your account. From there, you can directly attach subscriptions to the instance.
Need to manage the registration of an instance? Go here.
How It works
First, come to this page! If using a link from your instance, you should see the registration form below. If not, enter your instance ID below. The instance ID is generated by your instance in order to identify itself here.
Then, review. Make sure you agree with registering, and what we end up collecting. Also, decide whether or not to associate it with our account. Then, submit the form.
You will then be shown a confirmation page, on which will be a Registration Id and a Registration Secret. These values need to be entered into your instance in order to complete the process. These values need to be kept in a safe place! If you aren't associating the instance with your account, this data is how you manage the registration in the future. If you lose these, we cannot assist you, and you will need to re-register with a new instance ID.
After registration is complete, the instance will report back the data listed below. It will also ping back periodically (typically monthly) to report updates. If you attached the instance to your account, you can manage it from your account page. Otherwise, go to the Registration Management page.
What data is collected?
Again, we are careful to only collect information that is relevant and non-identifyable (beyond the arbitrary instance ID). The goal is to get a sense of how our users are using the system in order to build a better product. We do not share or in any way disseminate this data in any non-aggregate, statistical form.
Below is a list of the data we collect:
-
Important data points for registration:
* = We only provide these at registration, so keep track of them.- Instance ID - ID generated by your instance to identify itself.
- * Registration ID - ID generated on registration to identify the registration. You must provide this to your instance to complete the registration.
- * Registration Secret - A secret used to view or manage the registration. You must provide this to your instance to complete the registration.
-
The data we collect:
- Instance id (An id generated by the instance to identify itself)
- Deployment type (Single Node, Kubernetes, etc)
- OEM-id (If the system was purchased from us)
-
System specs:
-
Single Node Host:
- CPU model, Number of threads
- RAM, in number of GB
- Basic OS info (Name (Ubuntu, etc), Type (Debian, etc))
- Package manager (apt, yum)
-
Single Node Host:
- OQM software versions
-
The data you optionally provide:
* = When associating with your account. Which is also optional.- Your usecase (as described by you!)
- * Name of your instance (you can give it a name for your own usage)
- * URL (again, for your own usage. If provided, we do not use it in any way, except potentially to assist debugging or in a service agreement)
Benefits to Registering
- Helping us understand our userbase and how to better serve you.
-
If associated with an account:
- Lists your instance(s) in one place; name them and specify the URL to reach them (for your own convenience)
- Easily attach subscriptions to your instance; get off the ground quickly!

FAQ
Do I need to register my instance?
No! Registration is 100% optional, and opt-in!
You are not missing out on any actual OQM features if you don't register.
How do we (EBP) use this data?
We use this data to get a gauge of how many users we have, high level what they are using OQM for, and what kinds of hardware people are using.
We make it a point to not gather any data that could be used to identify anything about the instance beyond the instance ID, and what information you might voluntarily give.
Can I remove my registration?
Yes! At any time, you can remove your registration. Just go to the Registration Management page and remove your registration. You will need your registration secret to do this.
Can I add the registration to my account later?
Yes! At any time, you can add an already registered instance to your account. Just go to the Registration Management page while logged in. You will need your registration secret to do this.
This feels complex. Why the extra steps?
We recognize this is less streamlined than other similar processes, but this was designed with your security and control of your data in mind. Through this approach, we can ensure that you can register from anywhere, registration happens behind a captcha (for our protection), and you can manage or remove the registration at any time.
